Like so many of these, the details of this were hard to nail down. According to the popular legend, Wright abandoned his car at the track at Talladega and skipped town after the race. According to him forty years later, though, he actually tried to qualify at another race before disappearing, and there's evidence that he's telling the truth. But don't let that get in the way of a good story.
