It's a dated cultural reference to be sure, but if there ever was a real-life Forrest Gump of the late 19th century, it's Robert Todd Lincoln. We're going to get at least one, but maybe three, more stories out of the guy, and it's just wild. This may not even be the most tragically ironic story about him - that one comes later. As for the assassinations, I'm not saying the guy was cursed, but I have the feeling that every President since McKinley considered staying exceedingly far away from Mr. Lincoln. I would've.
We know that Harding, Coolidge and Taft didn't, though. Because all three were present on May 30, 1922, for the dedication of the Lincoln Memorial along with a 78-year-old Robert Todd Lincoln, pictured below looking like Sean Connery in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, which is the best of the Indiana Jones movies.
